LGBTQ+ Affirmative Therapy in the Bay Area, CA
“Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we’ll ever do.” Brené Brown
What I Can Help You With
I work with LGBTQ+ individuals on a wide range of concerns:
Coming out — processing the decision, managing fear and uncertainty, navigating family and social reactions
Identity exploration — sexual orientation, gender identity, and the intersection of multiple identities
Minority stress — the cumulative impact of discrimination, microaggressions, and living in a world that doesn't always see you fully
Relationship issues — same-sex couples, polyamorous relationships, navigating unique dynamics
Family of origin wounds — rejection, conditional acceptance, or complicated relationships with family members who struggle with your identity
Anxiety and depression — often rooted in experiences of shame, stigma, or internalized homophobia or transphobia
Trauma — including experiences of violence, harassment, or abuse related to identity
Life transitions — medical transition, relationship changes, community changes
My Approach
I bring warmth, honesty, and genuine curiosity to every session. When you work with me, your identity isn't something we work around — it's something we honor. You are the expert on your own experience — I'm here to walk alongside you, ask good questions, and help you find your way to a life that feels true to who you are, in a space where all of who you are is not just accepted but celebrated.
I use evidence-based approaches including CBT to address anxiety, shame, and negative self-talk, and EMDR when past experiences of discrimination, rejection, or trauma need deeper processing. Throughout our work together, affirming and identity-positive frameworks guide everything we do.
I offer LGBTQ+ affirming therapy in person at my East Bay office in Richmond Annex, CA and my Marin County office in Corte Madera, CA (300 Tamal Plaza, Suite 220), serving the East Bay including El Cerrito, Albany, Berkeley, Kensington, and Oakland, as well as Marin County including Mill Valley, Larkspur, San Rafael, and Tiburon. Online therapy is available anywhere in California.
You Deserve a Therapist Who Gets It
Finding a therapist you can trust is hard. Finding one who truly understands LGBTQ+ experiences — without you having to educate them or navigate their assumptions — is even harder. When you work with me, you won't have to explain yourself, defend your identity, or wonder if I'm judging you. You can just be yourself.
I am a dedicated LGBTQ+ affirming therapist and ally. Whether you're exploring your identity, navigating coming out, or simply want to work with someone who sees and respects all of who you are, you are warmly and unconditionally welcome here.
A Note on Cultural Sensitivity
As someone who immigrated to California from Slovakia — a country with a very different cultural landscape around LGBTQ+ issues — I have a deep personal understanding of navigating identity across cultures. I am particularly sensitive to the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals from immigrant backgrounds, conservative families, or communities where being out carries significant risk.
